Purchase-related questions

1
I plan to install Exiland Backup on more than one computer. How many Exiland Backup licenses I must purchase?

Answer

According to the License Agreement, you have to purchase multiple licenses of Exiland Backup to use the program on multiple computers. For example, to use Exiland Backup on 2 computers, you need to acquire 2 licenses. Price per license depends on the number of licenses - the more licenses you buy, the lower price per license is. If you have more than 50 PCs you can purchase the "Exiland Backup for unlimited PCs" license. Please visit the Purchase page for details.
2
Do you offer discounts?

Answer

Yes, we offer quantity discounts. If you are interested in placing a large-quantity order you can purchase Exiland Backup for unlimited PCs. This license allows you to install the program on an unlimited number of computers in your company. Please visit the Purchase page for information on discounts and prices.
3
I plan to purchase a license of Exiland Backup Professional. Is it a one-time payment?

Answer

Your license is not limited in time. It includes one year free updates and technical support since the license has been purchased. When the subscription period for updates ends, you may continue using the installed version as long as you wish. To continue receiving updates and technical support, you have to renew your subscription using Your Account on the program's website. The annual subscription for updates is about 40% of the license cost (the exact cost you will see in your account a few days before the expiration date). If you choose Lifetime renewal option, you will receive new versions (all major and minor updates) in perpetuity free of any charges. It is the most popular and cost-effective option if you want to use the program for a long time.
4
If I reinstall Windows or upgrade my PC's hardware, will I need to buy the Exiland Backup license again?

Answer

It is not necessary to purchase the program again. The license will remain with you forever. New computer? No problem, you can transfer your license to your new computer at any time.
5
Can I upgrade my current Standard license to Professional?

Answer

Yes, you can upgrade by paying the difference in cost between Standard and Professional. Please contact us using the feedback form.

Technical questions and troubleshooting

1
Does Exiland Backup support Windows Server 2003 ?

Answer

The Exiland Backup works on all versions of the Windows OS family, excluding Windows Server 2003.
2
Does the program support the VSS (Volume Shadow Copy) to back up open and locked files such as Outlook files (* .PST or * .OST), MSSQLServer (*.mdf, *.ldf), and etc.?

Answer

Yes, since version 4.9, it supports. In the settings of the task, where you specify the source folders, enable the corresponding check box. With the option enabled, the program will create a shadow copy of the volume and back up those files even if MS Outlook is open. This feature is implemented only in Exiland Backup Professional.
3
What do the errors VSS_E_VOLUME_NOT_SUPPORTED (0x8004230c) and VSS_E_UNEXPECTED (0x80042302) mean when creating a shadow copy of a volume?

Answer

The "vshadow.exe" utility, which is launched by the Exiland Backup Professional service, uses two services:
1) Microsoft Shadow Copy Provider (swprv)
2) Volume Shadow Copy (VSS)
These services must be installed in the OS and have the startup type "Automatic" or "Manual".
4
I plan to use Exiland Backup for creating backups in my company at night on Windows Server. Which edition of Exiland Backup should I choose: Standard or Professional?

Answer

The Professional edition is the best solution for you. It is most suitable for constantly working servers - the program runs as a background Windows service irregardless of user sessions. It allows you to copy files from multiple PCs, compress them as ZIP archives and save backups to the specified folder. The Standard edition is a simple Windows application that runs only within user sessions.
5
I encountered the following error when I run the task: Disk "\\WD\Projects" is not accessible but previous time the same task was successfully performed. What should I do?

Answer

If you plan to copy files via the local network, you need to configure the Exiland Backup Professional service to run under any account that has privileges to access the network (for example, any user account). The LOCAL SYSTEM account (which is used by default) has no right to access the network. You can create a special account (for instance, with the "Backup" name) for backing up your files.
6
I moved the backups to another disk. How to specify the new location in the program?

Answer

First, open the task settings, find the "Where to store backups" section, and specify the new folder. Then, in the main window (on the "Created backups" tab), click the "Check" button. The old path to the backups will become invalid. Specify the new location for backups by clicking the "Specify location on disk" button.
7
How to automatically shut down the computer after the task has been completed?

Answer

You can set the program to perform one of the following functions once the task is completed: shut down, log off, reboot, hibernate, or sleep. This feature is available as the task properties (the "Other settings" section).
8
How Exiland Backup can save critical data from fire?

Answer

For maximum safety, you should not keep all the backups in the same building with your computer. You can store your backups locally, but additionally duplicate them to a remote FTP/SSH server. Both copies of the backup will not be lost if they are stored in different places. Thus, you will be sure of the safety of your data in case of emergency.
9
Can Exiland Backup create an image of a hard disk?

Answer

There are two main approaches to creating backups: (1) creating backups of selected files and (2) creating disk images. Each of the approaches has its advantages and disadvantages. Our backup software implements the first approach, that is, it supports only selective backups (for the most important data).
10
How do I pause/resume a task?

Answer

During the task execution you can pause/resume it. These functions are available through a popup menu in Notification Area (System Tray).
11
How can I view all queued tasks?

Answer

There is a task queue in Exiland Backup. To view the queue of current tasks, click the "Queue" button in the main window.
12
During backup operation I receive the following error: "Error creating the ZIP archive. Duplicate Object index". What should I do?

Answer

This error is associated with non-unique paths of files in ZIP archive. To make the file names unique, you need to configure the "Keep path information inside a backup" setting in the properties of each source folder of your task.
13
When launching an external application from Exiland Backup Professional, the application window does not appear, although there is the corresponding process in the Task Manager. How to display the window of an external program?

Answer

Exiland Backup Professional runs as a service, and services do not interact with the Desktop, so when an external program is launched from a service, its window is not visible and cannot be displayed. But if you need to launch an external program with a window, without waiting for the completion of execution, then you can create a task in Windows Scheduler to launch the application and specify the task in the settings of the Exiland Backup.

For example, run the Windows Scheduler (Start -> Run, type taskschd.msc and press Enter), menu "Action -> Create Task", Name: "MyTask", on the "Actions" tab create an action, specify the full path to your program or script, for example, "C:\Programs\MyApplication.exe", and in Exiland Backup program specify the following: schtasks /run /tn "MyTask"

In this case, the window of the running application will be visible.
14
When the program is automatically started, it is maximized. I have to minimize it every time. How to solve this problem?

Answer

It looks like you manually created a shortcut in startup. Try to uncheck the "[x] Launch the program automatically at Windows startup" check mark in the General settings, save the settings and then check the checkbox again. The program will re-create the shortcut with the "-minimize" parameter, so every startup the program will be minimized to tray.
15
When my backup task is running the Professional edition does not see my network drive X. How do I fix this?

Answer

The problem is that you configure tasks in the program that runs under your account, but the configured tasks are executed by the Windows service that starts before a user logs on. Therefore, network drives are not visible in the service. Specify all paths in UNC format, for example, \\server\share\folder, instead of using the drive letter. However, there is a workaround: when selecting source files, specify any local folder, for example, C:\Temp, then change the path to X:\SourceFolder (in the folder properties). When the task is created, go to the task settings ("Launch external applications" section), mount net use X: before and unmount the net use X: /delete after. So the service will see your disk X when copying the files. It is recommended to choose a drive letter that is not used in the system.
16
Exiland Backup "does not see" the network folder \\vboxsrv\vb_share on VirtualBox (Error code 67, The network name cannot be found), but the Explorer opens it fine. Why?

Answer

The vboxsrv is the virtual machine host in VirtualBox and the "vboxsrv" network name may not be available even using the Ping command. Mount the \\vboxsrv\vb_share network drive under the drive letter and specify source paths with it in Exiland Backup. If the network drive is not connected in Windows or you are using the Professional edition, then you can temporarily mount the drive before running the task, and unmount it after the task completion (see previous question).
17
When the Exiland Backup runs, the following question appears on the screen: "Do you want to run this file?". Therefore, the program cannot automatically run (waiting for me to answer "Run"). How to remove this question?

Answer

The "ExilandBackup.exe" program file is probably blocked by the Windows environment. Almost all of the files downloaded from the Internet are considered by Microsoft to be potentially dangerous and block them, although many of them, such as our program, do not pose any danger. To unlock the file "ExilandBackup.exe", right-click on it, select "Properties" and click on the "Unlock" button.
18
Are the settings in the program encrypted, for example, the FTP/SSH passwords I store in the program?

Answer

Yes, of course. All program settings are saved in the "ExilandBackup.tid" file, all passwords are securely encrypted, including the password to enter the program. To encrypt passwords, a non-standard encryption algorithm is used. Also, the program does not send accounts or passwords information anywhere over the Internet.
19
My hard drive crashed where the program was installed. I reinstalled the program on a new PC. How to transfer the license and all configured tasks?

Answer

You can find the instruction on how to transfer the settings file in your Personal Account. If you have been set to back up the settings file to another disk, then you can get the settings file from there.
20
The program shows the error "Could not load SSL library". What should I do?

Answer

This error is due to the fact that Exiland Backup loads SSL-encryption files (libeay32.dll, ssleay32.dll) not from the program folder, but from somewhere else, for example, "C:\Windows\SYSTEM32". To find out, look in the "WorkingFolder\trace.log" file and you will see something like:
PrintLoadedLibrary - begin
    libeay32.dll loaded from C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\libeay32.dll, FileSize=1277952
    ssleay32.dll loaded from C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ssleay32.dll, FileSize=286720
    libeay32.dll loaded from C:\Exiland Backup Professional\libeay32.dll, FileSize=1370112
    ssleay32.dll loaded from C:\Exiland Backup Professional\ssleay32.dll, FileSize=364032
PrintLoadedLibrary - end

The first two lines show that the libraries were loaded not from the program folder. Try to cut (move) the specified two files from the "C:\Windows\SYSTEM32" folder to some other (for example, temporary) folder and restart Exiland Backup (also restart the service if you have the Professional version). After that open the WorkingFolder\trace.log file again and, starting from the bottom, look for the list of loaded DLLs. Make sure that now they are loaded only from the program folder. The problem is solved.
